- Were any of them individual accounts (without the surviving spouse listed)
- Required documents:
- Certified Death certificate
- Account numbers
- For a joint account, you will want to keep it until you’re sure there won’t be any more checks issued to your loved one.
- If your loved one was the sole owner of a bank account, the account may have a beneficiary listed or a Payable on Death (POD) or Transferable on Death (TOD) instruction. If there was no beneficiary or POD, it may need to go to probate.
